Shotton Hall goes InternationalShotton Hall goes International We have a packed agenda on the International front this term. What with trips, days out, international competitions and connections with students from different countries, there is a lot going on. Year 7 classes have started exchanging emails with their new French pen friends in places such as Paris, Grenoble and the South of France. Hopefully, this will develop strong links and we will be able to video-conference our new friends and see what they actually look like! Also 40 year 7 students are getting excited about their 5 day trip to Paris in July when we will visit the sights of Paris, including a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower and a day in Disneyland. Year 9 students are going to Normandy to see the Bayeux Tapestry, the Landing Beaches, yes, the real ones as seen in the film “Saving Private Ryan”, and experience the French summer in June. The hotel promises to be a treat: it is an old manor house with its own swimming pool and 101 activities to keep everybody happy. In addition, a group of 30 year 9 students are off to Teesside University at the end of this month to spend the afternoon immersing themselves in the languages and cultures of different countries of the world. They will have the opportunity to try out some less well known a languages along with dance and music sessions from different countries. Year 10 Christmas Elves have now turned their culinary attention to the Language in Enterprise competition to be held at Durham County Cricket Club at the end of this month. They are entering the Dragons’ Den to try and drum up support for their new product with a view to selling it in France. I can’t reveal their secret recipes but they promise to be very tasty. If you are in year 10, get ready for the Prom Fashion Show at the end of the year. Years 9 and 10, who are going to New York next year, will be raising money for their trip by organising a fashion show where Prom dresses, suits, make-up, hair and jewellery will be on display. Make sure you get your ticket before you make that all important choice! The New Yorkers are also organising a Hoe Down barn dance for parents in July. So warn them to don their cowboy boots and hats ready for a fantastic night. Keep your eyes open for posters with more details nearer the time. Finally, congratulations to Shotton Hall School who have been successful in their bid to participate in the Connecting Classrooms project with Kenya and Zimbabwe. We are leading the group with 2 other schools in County Durham and look forward to learning about schools, lifestyles and hobbies of students in these countries. What a fantastic opportunity! Make sure you join in the projects available from September. |
