Fantastic Results
Students and staff at Shotton Hall School are again celebrating following this summer’s public examination results. 98% of all students in year 11 achieved 5A*-C grades, beating last year’s record total of 84% by a further 14%.
Ian Mowbray the school’s Head Teacher commented:
“These results are absolutely out of this world. We are all very proud of our students who once again excelled themselves. To put this into perspective one only needs to think of where we were a few years ago. In 2001, 25% of students achieved 5A* - C – this represented approximately 53 students. This year over 200 students achieved this figure. This shows Shotton Hall School to be the inclusive school it prides itself in being. Fantastic. I can only express congratulations, thanks and gratitude to staff, students, parents and Governors for their total commitment and belief in achieving what many people thought to be impossible.”
The good news does not end here though. Within this year’s results many individual students gained multiple passes with 15 A*-C grades being commonplace and one student even achieving over 20 A*-C passes. In English, 68% of all students gained A*-C grades exceeding the national average by over 4%.The improvement shown by students from Key Stage 2 to 4 in English were the best in Co. Durham. In Science 95% of all students gained two A*- C grades exceeding the national average by over 20%. Mathematics results are also very encouraging with almost 52% achieving A* - C grades. This continues the improving trend in this subject area. 46% of students achieved 5A*- C grades including English and Mathematics. Lesley Powell, the School’s current Deputy Head Teacher said, “ As well as great results from year 11 students we also saw over 120 year 10 students achieving a C grade or above, a year early in Science, and in Mathematics over 47% achieved an early grade C or above. These other results coupled with some highly encouraging year 9 modular results in mathematics suggest that the future here at Shotton Hall School is very bright indeed.”
